Excited for the Framework laptop!!!

The Framework laptop that allows you to fully upgrade and repair!

With most thin and light laptops that you purchase, your stuck with what ever system components you initially get. Upgrades or repairs are almost impossible unless you get high power gaming laptop. Most memory modules are soldered onto to motherboard and replacing the main storage is not possible. This company supports “Right to Repair” and makes it easy to work on your laptop yourself, when most companies make you send it back to the manufacture when you have an issue. If you have a bad component or part, you will be able to buy a replacement from Framework’s web site and do the repair yourself.

Framework is also trying to keep the environment in mind by using all recyclable packing materials.

I purchased the DIY Edition version of this laptop while opting to install the memory, solid state drive, and the WiFi network adapter myself. I decided on the mid tier configuration with the Intel 17-1165G7 processor. The memory and solid state drive I purchased separately, which I listed below.

Easy Installation of Components and Parts

Expandable IO Devices.

What is truly revolutionary is the laptops ability to replace and expand the IO devices, which you can install in any of the four available slots. I purchased 2 USB C ports, 1 SD Card Reader, 1 USB A port, and and HDMI port.

Add the Operating System of Your Choice

For the operating system I chose to use Fedora Linux 35 Beta, since the kernel has the latest drivers and all the hardware works.

I really hope other laptop manufacturers take this approach. Not only will this reduce a lot of hassle with the people that are not afraid to repair and upgrade there own laptop, this would also reduce a lot of e-waste from going in the landfill, by making it more future proof.

Feel free to ask any questions or add any comments.

-Cheers!!

  3. I do agree with all of the ideas you have presented in your post. They are very convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too short for novices. Could you please extend them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post.
